Millie Black

I am a painter and textile artist living and working on Ngunnawal Country. I work predominantly in oils and watercolour on various materials such as cotton, linen and hemp canvas as well as mulberry or wove paper. Growing up in the bushland surrounding Canberra, I am passionate about the natural environment and our place within it. I am in constant awe of nature, particularly drawn to the sublimity of distant landscapes.

My current practice-led research explores the atmosphere as a connection to the environment and the importance of the air in weaving together human and nature. My paintings often have a blurred quality that gives a sense of atmospheric perspective and inspires the feeling of awe, leaving us wondering what lies beyond. This feeling seems to provide a connection between people and environment through the consideration of something bigger than ourselves.
