Greg Mallyon

My work is inspired by aerial views of the world below. This perspective has fascinated humans for thousands of years from Neolithic artists who depicted bird’s eyes images of surrounding country to our contemporary images of the earth taken by satellite.

I am an incessant traveller and have explored Australia and overseas destinations in commercial aircraft, light planes, helicopter and hot air balloon. From sketches, photographs and further research on the internet I create an impression of the landscape beneath me. Geographical features such as lakes, mountain ranges, snaking rivers and deserts along with the imprints of human civilization create an endless source of fascination. The resulting works are abstracted topographical landscapes.

As a printmaker and painter I have combined both disciplines in my work to create etchings that incorporate painting and drawing and paintings that use print techniques. My work continues to evolve through experimentation and fresh insight.
