Early in her career Susie Sierra was a successful theatre actor and television presenter. A relocation to North America and a season in repertory theatre soon followed before her talent for painting emerged. During this time, Susie established a commercial art studio in the Rocky Mountains with a group of American artists. She also worked as an actor in repertory theatre and collaborated on a variety of lifestyle programs before returning to Australia in 1992. She opened her first art gallery in Clovelly, Sydney in 1994.
However, long before becoming a professional artist, Susie was a student of meditation. Taught by some of the leading meditation teachers of our times, including S. N. Goenka and Gurumayi Childvilasananda, she is also a 2001 Silva Method graduate as originally taught by the great Dr Jose Silva.
“I started painting and within a year opened my own art gallery. This was a bold move and I have no doubt that many changes in my life, both personally and professionally, were strongly influenced by my meditation practice. From a young age I had a thirst for understanding the nature of life. I grew up riding horses which put me very close to nature. When I was 18 I read Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz which opened up my mind and allowed me a glimpse of the underlying fabric of life. I found this fascinating and began to realize creativity was an opening into a deeper understanding of myself and the world around me. Art becamea vehicle for my investigation into the world of stillness and beauty."
Today, Susie draws inspiration from Nature and the history of flower painting including the paintings of the 17th Century Dutch Masters and ancient Oriental flower painting. Her paintings can be found in private collections throughout Australia, North America and Europe.
