Michael Parker: Resin
I was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1968. Surrounded by brushes and with the smell of linseed oil in the air, I remember sitting by my mother’s side as she painted. It wasn’t long before I too picked up a brush - Michael Parker
For many years a painter, recently Michael has been working with resin, seeking to create and develop new techniques from his studio in Daylesford, Victoria.
Michael says simply that these works draw inspiration from the natural world, and it is easy to recognise the intricate patterns of organic life and rhythms of nature pulsing through his designs. The works have a simultaneous strength and delicacy, engaging the viewer on a micro scale with their intensely worked detail and accents of gold pigment. The works take on a different character when viewed from a distance with their vibrant energy and bold, sweeping forms. We are reminded of the power and beauty of nature in all her glory - the ocean, the cosmos, or a forest incandescent with fire are all suspended in the translucent canvas.
The processes he uses is glass-like. Each colour present in the works is added to the resin as a pigment, which is then then layered and mixed with other colours. Heat is applied to help make the resin more pliable, and fluid. The process is carried out in a controlled environment, to eradicate dust and pollutants that could enter the resin and destroy the impeccable gloss surface.
Michael has works in private collection in Australia and in over twelve countries worldwide.
